Singing a sad farewell...

 Nás na Rí Singers were shocked and saddened to learn of the untimely death of our friend and cherished member, Eileen Nolan, on Thursday 4th February 2016.  Eileen had attended rehearsal two weeks previously and had been communicating with choir members as recently as two days before her death, which none of us were expecting. There is a gap in the alto line, and a sense of loss that will stay with us for a long time to come.  

Eileen bore her illness with calm dignity and discretion, never complaining and always positive. It is a reflection on her bravery and discretion that many members did not realise she had been undergoing treatment at all, until the first time she attended rehearsal with a smart new hairstyle and revealed that she had, in fact, been wearing a wig and undergoing chemotherapy during the previous months. Her approach to life is an inspiration to us all. She took a full part in the activities of the choir, participating in all our concerts, competitions, and fundraising for the vital work of Friends of Naas Hospital while undergoing treatment.

Eileen loved music and loved singing, lending her voice to Nás na Rí Singers, Millicent Singers and Kildare County Council Local Authority Choir. At the request of her family, members of the three choirs came together to celebrate her life and  provide a fitting choral tribute at her requiem Mass in her hometown of Ballon. We are grateful for the opportunity to express our sorrow and shock in such an appropriate manner.
